Newly-elected mayor Adanech Abebie has expressed promise to improve livelihood of Ethiopians living in the capital. She stated this while she sworn in before the Addis Ababa City Council as mayor of the capital here yesterday.
Although patriotic citizens have been striving to the overall development of their country, Ethiopia has been stranded by extreme poverty due to various reasons and mainly from internal and external pressures, she said.
“We will endeavor to respond to the demands of the public so that we will achieve prosperity,” she disclosed. She also noted that her administration will struggle to reach for the people which is living under poverty line experiencing the extreme impacts of inflation. She mentioned that she will work to break the cycle of poverty through improving livelihood.
Adanech disclosed that her administration will follow mobilizing resources and implementing efficient utilization as a scheme to support all citizens improve their lives. Therefore, the objective of prosperity mainly relies on citizen-centered efforts, she underscored. “We will identify the development potentials of the city and provide instant service to the public.”
She also added that her government will improve infrastructure, housing, drinking water and power providing among others. Due attention will be given to women and the youth so that the administration will exert utmost efforts on improving health and education, creating jobs, ensuring rule of law, forming various structures that need active participation of the public, widening community service for elders and making the capital center of cultures.
She also called on stakeholders and the public to join hands with new vision and zeal to make the city symbol of African prosperity. Adanech has expressed gratitude to the city residents to their support and enable her to lead the city once again.
“The new administration is ready to serve the people and improve livelihood taking into consideration that the capital is enough to all regardless of various differences,” the mayor underlined.
Adanech is appointed unanimously by the Addis Ababa City Council as the new mayor to lead the capital in the next five consecutive years. Adanech’s appointment came after the landslide victory that her Prosperity Party achieved in the general elections held last June. Similarly, the council also assigned Buzena Alkedir as its Speaker for similar period.
