Diaspora working to attract more fellows back home

BY GIRMACHEW GASHAW

Yohannes Tedla has been residing in the US for the past 12 years. Even if he has been leading a luxurious life there, he could not stop thinking about a country of born and being raised through providing all it has. He thinks about it without taking a wink and is ashamed of himself as he has contributed nothing to the country.

“Since I left my country and resided in the US, I often think about what I can contribute to my country. From that day on, I think day and night to do so.”

One day, I made a phone call to my brother and shared the view I had with him even if he was very tight due to his consultancy work. However, I did not hesitate to ask for his support for the realization of the dream. Even if he knew it was hard to implement it, he did not discourage me saying,” nothing is impossible.” This by itself was a big triumph for me as my brother has already established wonderful relations with several local and international organizations and understood what is going on in the country better than I do due to the nature of his work.

Even if the challenge of establishing a new firm is not easy, we challenged all the bottlenecks by the commitment and togetherness we have had, we then develop the new web application called “Yegna Home.” The type of business we invented is new for Ethiopia. The company has received guests of Ethiopia, be it Ethiopian diaspora or others who first visit the country and provide the first-class service until they depart from Ethiopia, said Yohannes.

The company is an indigenous company co-founded by two Ethiopian brothers who have the passion to build and connect communities through a platform that bridges the gap of safe and decent accommodation versus convenient room booking services through the state of the art innovations.

It developed an interactive website for room booking, mobile applications and a local call centre to meet the needs of local and international visitors in search of rooms from anywhere in the world 24/7.

Yegna home offers Convenient, Secured, and Reliable hospitality and on-demand room booking services (CSR) and aspire to create a Comfortable, Affordable and Safe Stay (CAS) for our local and international guests. Currently, Yegna home neither charges for registration nor promotion on their website.

The company, which is assisted with technology, has developed its software  to provide simple and reachable service for its local and international customers or travellers by facilitating guest houses. The company has planned to provide reliable service for its customers via supplying mobile applications and direct phone call service.

Yegna home, apart from bringing an idea which is created a good opportunity for businesses in the hospitality sector, creates wonderful business for private house owners via the applications it introduced, said Yohannes.

The company was established with a vision of bringing safe, affordable and reliable on-demand room booking at the tip of your fingers and excels the horizon of hospitality. It will have the plan of expanding its business to East Africa and the African continent. First of all, it works to satisfy the needs of customers by supplying guest house options, car rentals, and air tickets. For this to happen, the company uses cashless money transactions to make its move with the world economy and make the country from money transaction influence, he added.

“I am happy because I saw; Yegna home company has now created jobs for over 15 Ethiopians.”

Melaku Tekola is an elder brother and business partner for Johannes, on his part said that since the time I received a phone call from brothers, I have been working day and night to realize the idea of my brother. I believe that the small business that we established will create numerous job opportunities for many jobless citizens apart from improving the hospitality service in Ethiopia. The advancement of the sector is crucial for the development of the tourism industry as a whole.

As Ethiopia is a seat for international organizations such as the Africa Union, UN Africa branch offices, the improvement of the hospitality sector would open the economic door for Ethiopia. In this regard, Yegna home will contribute its share leaving its footsteps via providing guest houses for local and international visitors without any difficulty.

Johannes, the founder of Yegna home private limited company has conveyed a message to the rest of the Ethiopian Diaspora. He said, since I lived in the USA, I observed that the number of diasporas has been increasing day by day.

“I also understood and realized the untapped capacity of the diaspora that has been accumulated for years. Even if the task is done so far by the Ethiopian government to facilitate conditions for the Diaspora to contribute something for their country is good and appreciated, every citizen who resides abroad should think day and night for the development of their country as much as they could.

Let alone others, simply, the Ethiopian Diaspora can contribute some via following legal means of money transaction for the benefit of our country. Thus, the diaspora should think about what to do for their country instead of blaming it.
