H.E. Demeke Mekonnen holds discussion with Raychelle Omamo

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, H.E. Demeke Mekonnen, this week had a discussion with H.E. Raychelle Omamo, Cabinet Secretary of the Foreign Affairs of Kenya, at his office.

The two sides have discussed bilateral and regional issues of common concern, including the situation in the northern part of Ethiopia, the negotiations over the GERD, and the Ethiopia-Sudan border issue.

Being thankful for Kenya for supporting Ethiopia’s cause during the recently held UN Security Council meeting on GERD, Demeke appreciated the longstanding, fraternal and peaceful relationship between the two countries.

Raychelle Omamo, for her part, reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to stand by Ethiopia’s effort to realize prosperity and peace in the country.

State Minister Redwan Hussein confers with President of Somaliland Musa Bihi Abdi

State Minister of the Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, H.E. Ambassador Redwan Hussein, met with the President of Somaliland, H.E. Musa Bihi Abdi this week.

The two sides discussed security and immigration issues at border areas and ways to strengthen the cultural exchanges and enhance people-to-people relations to the next level.

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland, H.E. Liban Yusuf, Ethiopian Consul-General in Somaliland, Seid Muhumed. The State Minister met higher officials of Somaliland and visited the Berbera port corridor on his two days visit.

During the discussion with the Acting Foreign Minister, the two sides deliberated ways to resume immigration services by respecting Covid-19 Protocols at the Wuchale border.

During his discussion with the Governor of Sahil Region, Ahmed Osman and the Mayor of Berbera, Abdishakur Mohamud, Ambassador Redwan noted the potential of Somaliland as a destination for Ethiopian Export products.

He said Ethiopia needs to maximize these economic ties to the highest level by expanding engagements in investment, tourism while utilizing the Berbera port corridor.

Hon. Adam Farah sends congratulatory message to new South Sudan Counterpart Rt. Hon. Deng Deng Akoon

H.E. Amb. Nebil Mahdi delivered a copy of the congratulatory message from Hon. Adam Farah, Speaker of the House of Federation of Ethiopia, to Rt. Hon. Deng Deng Akoon on his appointment as the Speaker of the Council of States of South Sudan.

On this occasion, noting the long-established close people to people relationship between Ethiopia and South Sudan, Amb. Nebil reiterated as an IGAD member State and a close neighbor, Ethiopia continues to play its role in supporting the full implementation of the South Sudanese peace agreement.

The ambassador also briefed the Honorable speaker that the second filling of GERD was concluded effectively without affecting the downstream countries, in spite of the prior accusations by Sudan and Egypt that it would reduce the flow of the Nile. He pointed that even Sudan is recently suffering from devastative floods.

The Rt. Hon. Deng Deng Akoon on his part expressed his utmost pleasure on receiving the congratulatory message from Hon. Adam Farah and asked to convey the greetings to his Ethiopian Counterpart.

Appreciating the uninterrupted supports of the Ethiopian People and Government, the Speaker said Ethiopia is a backbone of his nation for it has been playing crucial roles in solving the problems of South Sudan.

With regard to the terrorist TPLF group, the Speaker stated he is well aware of the misdeeds the group committed when it was in power. Stating that Ethiopia belongs for all Ethiopians and not for a single party, the Speaker said since Ethiopians now expressed their choice, no other body has right to say no to the will of the People.

Speaking on the issue of Nile waters, Rt. Hon. Deng Deng Akoon stressed that all the riparian States need to grow together and have equal rights to use from this natural gift. So, there is no any riparian State in a position to give permission or prevent from using it by any riparian State, he added.

Appreciating Ethiopia’s enthusiasm for amicable solution through the auspices of the AU on the GERD negotiation, he said it is the right thing that UNSC referred the case back to AU. He also reassured the ambassador that his Country’s borders and territories cannot by any means, be used against Ethiopia’s peace and stability.

The Rt. Honorable also appealed to Ethiopia and other nations to support his Country towards the full implementation of the peace agreement.

The Ethiopian communities in London, Uganda express their support for the ENDF

The Ethiopian community gathered in their thousands at the Ethiopian Embassy in London this week to express their support and solidarity towards the People and Govt. of Ethiopia in containing the threat from internal and external adversaries, and sustaining peace and reforms in the country.

On the occasion, Embassy of Ethiopia, London thanked the Diaspora for their ongoing support in debunking false information on the current situation in Ethiopia and also for their financial contribution towards strengthening the government’s capacity in addressing the needs of the people.

The event was organized by Defend Ethiopia in collaboration with the Embassy, and supported by local Ethiopian businesses.

Attendees got to hear motivational speeches from senior citizens and retired army officials, and were entertained by renowned Ethiopian artists.

By the same token Ethiopians in Uganda have attended the opening ceremony of the second round of mobilization of support for the Defense Forces of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (ENDF).

They have stated that they will stand by ENDF in the face of the invasion of the TPLF. Speaking on the occasion, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Uganda Alemtshay Meseret recalled the TPLF terrorist has launched an attack in neighboring regions ignoring the unilateral ceasefire and its employment of child soldiers.

She said the attack was carried out in violation of international law that destroyed private property, and public infrastructure, including medical facilities. She said the people of Ethiopia should stand together to fight the terrorist group.
