President’s visit is prestigious!

Yesterday, President Salva Kiir and his delegation arrived in Addis Ababa for an official working visit to Ethiopia. In response to this, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed stated, “Thank you President Salva Kiir for the commitment to strengthen ties between our two countries. In our discussions, we have also explored the necessity to build on economic ties through infrastructure development. All-weather friends like South Sudan are essential in our time of need.”

Remarkably, the visit from the president is an honor to Ethiopians at this critical time. The aim of this official visit that inevitably benefits the peoples of both countries would increase the appropriateness of the visit. It is true that both countries would benefit from this official working visit of the president. Along with all-weather friends, there comes progressive and mutual achievement.

Fortunately, the Prime Minister has explicitly given the reason why the President arrived for official visit: to strengthen ties between the two countries and explore the necessity to build on economic ties through infrastructure. That is why the President has received a warmer reception from the Prime Minister.

Moreover, what makes the President’s visit exceptional is his arrival in Ethiopia when the country was struggling with internal conflict and pressure from some westerners. Surely, the visit is the clearest indication of South Sudanese people’s all-weather friendship with Ethiopians.

Besides this, the visit would be considered as a respect to Ethiopia’s commitment to peace-making in South Sudan. Ethiopia played a significant role to solve conflict among the Sudanese and ensure regional stability. Undoubtedly, it demonstrated strong leadership and a level of direct involvement in peace efforts in Sudan and South Sudan that few countries can do. This enabled Ethiopia to ensure peaceful and stable neighbors. Encouraging lasting peace after South Sudan’s two-year-long civil war has been a significant achievement.

In addition to this, it can be remembered that Addis Ababa led the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD, a regional body) peace process on South Sudan and was a guarantor of the August 2015 Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan besides deploying peacekeepers to the UN Mission in South Sudan. And the African Union High Implementation Panel peace talks on the conflicts were held in Addis Ababa while Ethiopia’s two-year membership on the UN Security Council (UNSC) has been an opportunity to better connect regionally-led political processes to UN action.

Not only to African neighborhoods with which it shares a history and culture, Ethiopia has been contributing its roles in supporting different nations and peoples across the world when they needed it most. Undeniably, its contributions transcend what it has done for the South Sudanese people. From deploying peacekeeping missions and to brokering peace deals in different countries, the nation has played considerable roles that remain fruitful.

These days, unfortunately, Ethiopia is being challenged by the increasing atrocity of terrorist groups and the interference of foreign forces. Hence, it’s time for other African nations to stand beside Ethiopia as it’s striving to safeguard its sovereignty. It’s attention-grabbing that Africans seem to understand the authenticity of the Ethiopian government’s stance. That is why dear President Salva Kiir arrived in Addis Ababa yesterday. The Premier also appreciated this all-weather friendship. All in all, as Ethiopia’s stability and sovereignty can have a positive contribution to Africans, the support of other African nations would have a noteworthy result at this critical time.
