President Sahlework Zewdie Meets With UN USG for Political, Peace Building Affairs
President Sahlework Zewdie has discussed with United Nations Under-Secretary for Political and Peace Building Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo on various issues including the latest developments in Ethiopia.
The two have exchanged views on the latest developments in Tigray, the progress of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), the Ethiopia-Sudan border dispute, and recently concluded sixth national elections.
UN Under-Secretary congratulated Ethiopians on the successful completion of the sixth general elections.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Demeke Mekonnen meets Minister of Foreign Affairs of Algeria Ramtane Lamamra
Demeke Mekonnen, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, received at his office this week H.E. Ramtane Lamamra, Minister of Foreign Affairs and National community Abroad of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
At the onset of their meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister appreciated the historical relationships between the two countries and congratulated Algeria for conducting a successful election.
He also stated Ethiopia’s readiness to host the 5th Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC), which was postponed last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Demeke has also delivered a briefing on the current developments in the Tigray region and underscored the Ethiopian Government’s commitment to the humanitarian ceasefire.
Speaking on the GERD, Demeke said Ethiopia conducted the second filling according to the Declaration of Principles (DoP), which was signed by the tripartite in 2015.
The Deputy Prime Minister also expressed Ethiopia’s firm commitment to resume the trilateral negotiations over the Renaissance Dam under the auspices of the African Union.
Mr. Demeke asked the Algerian Foreign Minister to play a constructive role in correcting the Arab League’s misperceptions on the GERD underscoring Ethiopia’s intentions to fair and equitable utilization of the Nile water.
The discussion between the two sides also emphasized the need to expand engagements in trade, investment, and tourism between the two countries.
In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister expressed his hope that Ethiopian Airlines would start a direct flight from Addis Ababa to Algiers and noted Ethiopia’s interest to welcome investors from Algeria.
Ramtane Lamamra will also visit Sudan and Demeke asked him to persuade Sudan to solve its border issue with Ethiopia peacefully according to existing joint mechanisms and refrain from using force since it would never settle the matter amicably.
By the same token, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister also met the new UNOCHA Secretary General, Martin Griffiths this week. The Deputy Prime Minister asked OCHA to condemn and hold TPLF responsible for exacerbating conflicts, recruiting and deploying children, and preventing humanitarian aid from reaching the people in need.
He said the government of Ethiopia would do its level best to address the concerns of humanitarians and stay committed to the ceasefire, although new attacks by the TPLF may influence the government’s behavior.
Martin Griffiths, on his part, appreciated all the support extended to OCHA’s operations in Ethiopia and pledged to communicate well and work closely with the government of Ethiopia.
He also appreciated the initiative taken by the federal government of Ethiopia in declaring the unilateral humanitarian ceasefire and noted that the declaration would have been fruitful had it been reciprocated.
Ethiopians in Sudan holds rally to support the campaign against TPLF
Ethiopians living in Sudan have made public demonstrations this week, vowing to support the campaign in the northern part of the country in every way possible.
The demonstrators rejected the undue external pressures on the government of Ethiopia and other meddling in the internal affairs of the country.
Speaking at the occasion, Ethiopia’s Ambassador to Sudan, H.E. Ambassador Yibeltal Aemero appreciated the demonstrators for rejecting attempts that compromised the wellbeing of the country.
He said the corrupt and divisive TPLF should have been condemned for its atrocious acts and using women, children, and the elderly of Tigray as cannon fodders.
Ambassador Yibletal also said Ethiopia would win the just war against the racist TPLF and ensure the survival and wellbeing of the state.
In this regard, he expressed his confidence that Ethiopians living in Sudan would continue supporting the Ethiopian Defense Forces and the government and stemming TPLF propaganda.
Ethiopian Salvation Group extends its support, commitment to the construction of GERD
Members of the Ethiopian Salvation Group extended their support and commitment to the construction of Ethiopia’s flagship project – the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). Around 40 compatriots descended upon the Embassy in London after celebrating their annual get-together to leave their print on the GERD.
Welcoming the participants to the Embassy, Ambassador Teferi thanked them for their continued support and urged others in the diaspora to stand united for Ethiopia’s principled stand over the GERD. The Ambassador particularly applauded the younger members of the group for taking responsibility for the future development of their motherland.
Ethiopians living in US vow support for ENDF, denounce the terrorist TPLF
Hundreds of Ethiopians living in the U.S. gathered in Washington, D.C. this week to salute the Ethiopian National Defense Force and denounce the terrorist TPLF group.
During the rally, Ethiopians and descendants have reiterated full commitment to continue support for the national army which is now paying sacrifices to defend the sovereignty and national integrity of the nation.
They also strongly condemned atrocities being committed by the Junta against civilians and called upon the international community to denounce evils of the group including the use of child soldiers, attack on innocent people, and an impediment to humanitarian operation in the region.
Demonstrators further celebrated the second filling of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and reiterated continued financial contribution to the successful completion of the project.
Ambassador Meles Alem confers with Ambassador Galma Boru of Kenya
Meles Alem, Ambassador of Ethiopia to Kenya, held candid discussion with Ambassador Galma Boru, Director General of Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, this week.
The Ambassadors exchanged views on bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest. The two Ambassadors stressed the immense contribution of infrastructure development as a precursor for economic integration.
They further vowed to upscale trade and investment while cementing the existing longstanding friendship between the two sisterly countries.
Ethiopian Embassy in Algiers hosts virtual meeting on investment
Ethio-Engineering Group (EEG) and the Algerian GISB Group held a successful virtual Investment meeting this week hosted by the Ethiopian Embassy in Algiers.
In the discussion between Ethio-Engineering Group, a government owned Industrial enterprise, and GISB, an Algerian Industrial group, potential cooperation and Investment areas are identified.
Hiwot Mosisa CEO of EEG and her team highlighted EEG’S Interest areas of enhancing production capacity, manufacturing Input supply, technical and technology transfer as key areas of cooperation with GISB.
Djilani Kobibi Bachir, CEO of GISB, on his part explained his company’s readiness to enter collaborative engagement with EEG. The two parties agreed to exchange visits to consolidate relationships and forge Investment partnership
