Election attests Ethiopians civility, far-sightedness : Scholars

ADDIS ABABA—The peaceful conclusion of the sixth national electionsin Ethiopia has shown Ethiopians far-sightedness, civility and thoughtfulness to the rest of the world, so remarked scholars.

Speaking to local media, scholars said that Ethiopians have shown the world that they are looking forward to enjoying a better tomorrow, are civic-minded and visionary as well as lapdog hatred despite the presence of a number of challenges in the country.

Journalism and Communication Assistant Prof. at Hawassa University,Melsew Dejene (PhD) stated that many forces thought that Ethiopia could not hold elections in the current context. But the election has clearly shown that these forces are totally misguided and flooded with misinformation.

He also noted that the election has paved ways to a further democratic voting and a more reliable than this one. Currently, the National Electoral Board of Ethiopia (NEBE) is being led by individuals who are trusted by many Ethiopians. Establishing an institution that can conduct such a credible election requires a great deal of commitment and confidence, he opined.

“As people, the election is very essential for our survival. It helps us have a democratically elected government in the country,” he indicated.

He further called on the newly elected government to minify inflation, decline unemployment rate, create national consensus, bring about sustainable peace and security in the country, and complete the commenced projects, among others.

Hawassa University Law Lecturer,Yohanan Yokamo on his part said that the peaceful conclusion of the election is a clear testimony of Ethiopians ability to make history if properly guided and informed.
