- WFP reaches one million people in the State
ADDIS ABABA – The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has refuted the unsubstantiated allegations circulated in social media by associates of the terrorist TPLF clique about restriction of humanitarian access induced food crises in Tigray State of Ethiopia.
In its twitter post recently, FAO assured that the communities affected by the current situation in Tigray resumed agricultural production and humanitarian workers ensured unfettered access to the State. Currently, the organization is distributing seeds and agri-inputs in time for the upcoming main rainy season.
“As more areas become accessible, FAO will scale up operations,” the twitter post stated. Meanwhile, the National Disaster Risk Management Commission said recently that consolidated efforts are underway to reach each woreda in Tigray and it is exchanging information continuously with donor communities so as to alleviate the damage and effectively deliver the required assistance.
The country has boosted its food reserve capacity and the meticulous efforts that have been carried out by the federal government and different organizations have prevented human catastrophe, according to the commission. Also, the sufficient food reserve in warehouses and the integrated transport system have played a role in the speedy delivery of assistance.
It is to be recalled that some Western corporate media have disseminated unfounded reports about the current situations in Tigray and claimed that Ethiopia could face a drought severer that of 1984. In a similar development, the World Food Program (WFP) announced that it has been providing humanitarian assistance in Tigray since last month and thus far it has delivered more than 40,000 metric tons of food and reached over one million people.
So far, WFP have delivered food aid to 885,000 people in 13 woredas of northwestern Tigray and another 168,000 in three woredas of Southern Tigray thereby reaching 1.05 million people with the support.” According to NDRMC, out of the 40,000 metric tons of food provided by the program, 22,000 metric tons have been transported to Tigray. Likewise, WFP disclosed its plan to provide emergency food aid to 2.1 million people in the State. A total of 5.2 million people in Tigray are in urgent need of food aid, it was learned.
