ADDIS ABABA- Warmongering of the Sudan and Egyptians over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has probably been designed to impose frustration on Ethiopian government as the latter rejects their stance of sustaining the status quo, the dam’s technical committee member said.
Approached by The Ethiopian Herald,), a member of Technical Committee under the Tripartite Negotiation Belete Birhanu (PhD) said that Egypt and Sudan could come back to the AU-led negotiation as the current warmongering is likely designed to impose pressure on Ethiopia. “As a member of the negotiating team, I believe that the negotiation would be resumed as both countries have no any valuable alternative other than diplomatic negotiation.”
DRC President Félix Tshisekedi has also commended all sides to come back to negotiation during his visit to three countries, he noted. “So, for what purpose they will entered into unnecessary action? If entered into this, it will be nation suicide.” As to Belete, such warring has been used by Egypt for long and they are assuming that their activity will incur frustration on the Ethiopian side, and tried to divert the latter’s stance through force. He; however, urged that the GERD and areas around the dam should be kept under strict security protection as security related conspiracies are reportedly alive across the shared border of with Sudan.
