A road to prosperity can never be rosy: Premier

  • Wishes a prosperous 2021 African Day

ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy (PhD) Ahmed said that the road to a new prosperous Ethiopia is bound to have its own rough patches. Congratulating Africa Day 2021, Premier Abiy stated that building a prosperous nation is bound to have its own rough patches, but just as the great Abebe Bekila demonstrated, even the smoothest of roads will give blisters to the barefoot. What matters is the clarity of vision and “barefooted” determination to stay on the course.

Meanwhile, in a letter Russia’s Embassy in Addis Ababa issued yesterday, President Vladimir Putin has congratulated heads of states and governments of African countries on the occasion of Africa Day 2021. President Putin stated that Africa Day has become the symbol of victory of the peoples of the continent over colonialism and their aspirations for independence, peace and prosperity. “African countries have achieved remarkable success in the social and economic fields and are playing an increasingly important role in dealing with pressing issues on the international agenda.”

The African Union and a number of sub-regional organizations help enhance constructive multilateral cooperation and promote mutually beneficial integration processes, he added. He also stressed that Russia values the traditionally friendly relations with its African partners, unwaveringly supporting their efforts aimed at resolving local conflicts, countering terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking and epidemic diseases, as well as addressing other regional and global security challenges.

“The Russia – Africa Summit held in Sochi in 2019 allowed us to outline new formats and areas for constructive interstate interaction. I am convinced that, building on the agreements reached, we will be able to further expand the network of Russian-African ties – for the benefit of our countries and peoples.” The President wished African leaders strong health and success in their state activities and peace and wellbeing to citizens of Africa.
