
ADDIS ABABA – The Federal Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (FEACC) stated that it has renewed commitment and been relentlessly working to contain the rapid speared of corruption across the nation. Speaking at the event organized to mark FEACC 20th anniversary yesterday under the theme, “Attention to Build an Ethical Generation,” Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commision Commissioner, Tsega Arage said first of all it was established to prevent corruption and related acts like bribery, embezzlement, theft and nepotism to make citizens alert to condemn corrupt individual and the act itself.
The commission has saved 2.4 Billion Birr by returning and preventing from robbery in government sectors and development agencies thereby helping the nation take the right development new path improving past policies, producing strategic plans in various sectors. Earlier, it awareness creation on corruption was not accessible to all citizens, but now it becomes possible to mitigate the problems though there are challenges. Even so far about 1.8 million government and developmental workers have been willing and informed to get their wealth registered so as to back the effort geared towards preventing corruption.
On the event, President Sahle-Work Zewde said that we have to stamp out immoral acts and corruption at national level since it has a long-term great impact on political and economic spheres. “As corruption is cancerous as tuberculosis is, what is expected of senior government officials is effectively discharging our respective responsibilities as collaboratively and diligently as possible to curb such an evil act everywhere in the nation,” she added.
And we should also do the visible work on the ground up to grassroots in this regard at national level to push the nation steps ahead. The commission awarded model ethical persons and institutions nationwide in different sectors to encourage them fur further success and motivate others follow suit on the occasion.
