ADDIS ABABA – Washington D.C. members of Ethiopian Diaspora have finalized preparations to stage mass rally on May 17, 2021 to denounce misguided policies of some foreign powers on Ethiopia.
Moreover, they would urge individuals and organizations not to interfere in internal affairs of homeland, rally coordinators said. One of the Washington D.C. Rally Coordinators, Lidet Muleta told local media that the Diasporas are going to protest against forces that are putting unfair pressure on Ethiopian government for upholding rule of law in the country .
Lidet mentioned that the demonstration is a siren to refute the external pressure on Ethiopia and promote unity among its people. The demonstration also aims at refuting the unfair claim of downstream countries to halt the construction and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) and diplomatic pressure to disrupt the forthcoming 6th general elections, she said.
She further noted that the demonstration on the other hand is a response to the media smear campaigns against Ethiopia and its people . Virginia Public Demonstration Organizer Tassew Melakehiwot on his part remarked that the rally would support the government’s attempt to democratize and prosper the country.
Ethiopian Election 2021 and the GERD are the two most important scenarios that would transform the country’s economic and political dimension of the country, as to Tassew. The election would be free, fair and historic event which could open a new chapter for the Ethiopian politics. Thus, diplomats and election observers should recognize the government’s effort to carry on the reform, he suggested.
The lobbyists mentioned that the house of Federation’s decision to label Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF)and shene as a terrorist groups it right and timely decision . The rally is also to call for strengthening peace and stability in the Horn of Africa Tassew added.
