Bereket Simon, excommunication minister and Tadesse Kassa appeared in court yesterday for grant corruption charges.
The judge at the Amhara Regional State capital, Bahir Dar higher court, denied the two mates bails citing the sensitivity of the case. In their court appearance, the defendants had also requested the transfer of the case to courts in Addis Ababa, where they argued the head office of the conglomerate company they are allegedly grafted and their residences are located.
The judge denied the request on the prosecutors’ response that the companies allegedly been plundered are the properties of the Amhara people and most of the companies are still operational within the regional state.
The two were arrested on Wednesday on corruption allegations against regional conglomerate, Tiret.
