ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian religious fathers wished for peace and stability across Ethiopia while they delivered Ethiopian Christmas wish yesterday.
In his Christmas message, Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church Patriarch Abune Mathias called on the faithful to safeguard Ethiopians’ centuries-old
peaceful coexistence and tolerance. “The faithful have to refrain from taking any illegal actions that further aggravate conflicts in the country, wrongdoers will only be held accountable by law.”
As to the patriarch, the government, the contesting political parties and the public at large have to work on nurturing peace in a bid to own prosperous and peaceful country.
Also Abune Mathias particularly urged the youth not to get involved in disturbing peace. “The youth have to waste their time and energy on the nation’s development drive.
For his part the Ethiopian Catholic Church Cardinal Berhaneyesus Demerew Souraphiel said: “We should pray to GOD to help us to overcome the
hardships that we are now witnessing in our country. We have to love each other and avoid hatred via maintaining brotherhood. “
Cardinal Berhaneyesus further said every fellow citizen has a responsibility in creating a better country for children. ‘’Our children need to live a happy life and so we should all be peacekeepers of the country.’’
Also Ethiopian Evangelical Church President Tsadiku Abdo noted that keeping the country’s peace is the spiritual obligation of the faithful.
He called on the faithful to pray for those families who lost their beloved ones during the recent unrest in some universities. “We should all encourage those who pray for durable peace in Ethiopia day and night.
It is to be recalled that Ethiopia celebrates Christmas on January 7th, not December 25th. The Christmas celebration in the Ethiopian Orthodox Church is called Ganna.
