Acknowledging the genuine and legitimate grievances of fellow citizens across the country, since April 2018, the incumbent have been taking major reforms as a means of meeting and giving prompt response to the public demands in a democratic and constitutional manner.
Having elected Dr. Abiy Ahmed as the Chairperson of the ruling party and the Prime Minister of the country unanimously, he had outlined major election, economic and government structural reforms.
On several occasions, the Premier explicitly stated that the government will do everything in its capacity to address the root causes of the public grievances in a sustainable manner and he has also turned some of his promises into reality with less than one year and a half.
However, ignoring concrete and sweeping political reforms that have been unfolding all over the country since the very day of the assuming of state power by the reformists, some ill intent individuals have recently incited violence and caused human losses and economic damages in some parts of Oromia State.
In his recent statement, the Premier once again reiterated his government unwavering commitment to uphold rule of law and to bring the perpetrators of the recent violent unrest before justice apart from proceeding to implement the lofty goals of the reform.
Yes, knowingly or unknowingly, some youths have joined the cliques that hail from external and internal anti-peace elements. In recent civil unrest, misled by the destructive force propaganda, the youth have caused substantial property damages on public and private owned companies. Indeed, by any means, these lawless actions have to be condemned and the mastermind of such evil acts should be held accountable by law. At the same time, giving particular focus on the youth, the government needs to conduct various awareness creation campaigns on how to expose those news outlets which are becoming destructive propaganda machine.
Thanks to the peace-loving and the God-fearing people of Ethiopia, the country has already restored its peace and normalcy in the shortest period of time and full scale operations to hunt down the criminals are going in the country. It is a step forward to hear that the government will aggressively work on bringing about dramatic economic growth in the country. Therefore, wasting no time, the government is expected to continue engaging a large number of youth in various developmental activities nationwide.
It is true that the ruling party has promised to conduct first -ever credible elections and to hand over power for democratically elected political party. Therefore, before the next election, the government has been improving the existing electorate system with a view to widening political and democratic platforms providing legal framework. In doing so, the House of Peoples’ Representatives would be best represented by a variety of voices and diverse political interest.
In all, entertaining divergent interests in a democratic and peaceful manner as well as holding criminals accountable are decisive for stable country. Plus, the government has to effectively and efficiently implement the major reforms in a timely manner with a view to addressing problem arising from lack of good governance. The government also needs to intensify struggle to keep the gained momentum of political reforms and has to work day and night to bring sustainable development in the country.
