Forward-looking accretion the best way out

Accretion is troubleshooting roadblocks mindful of the reality on the ground. It entails the salient task of coming up with a panacea amidst a whole host of divergent outlooks.

Distilling the best performances and virtues from the past for their furtherance, doing away with shortfalls and trying to meet the demands of the coming generation form the tripod of accretion, the peace-champion PM Dr. Abiy Ahmed brought into life.

Aside from the fulfillment of basic or material needs like food, clothing and shelters (condos) mankind, as a modern being wants a warrant that his/her dignity and freedom are observed. Heedful of this fact, there is a call for satisfying such demands of the broad spectrum of Nations, Nationalities and cross section of society.

But growing out of polarization is a task citizens ill afford to put on the backburner.

Also, avoiding underplaying some obstacles that beg for a smashing down task is an assignment the nation has to see to without fail.

Unless the nation strives to address challenges on consensus or seeking the middle ground when confronted by divergent outlooks, it could experience a nosedive from a precipice as some predict seeing the tangible situation.

Here, it is worthwhile to note that the past regimes had their respective downsides and upsides. Not mentioning downsides, embracing socialism had its advantages as adopting liberalization manifested the same. We could expect nothing different from actualizing social democracy and what have you?

Breathing the oxygen of accretion to actualize prosperity across the board, while maintaining self-interest, both cooperation and positive competition are called for.

Accretion entails the concept of equity and summing up as a human being , as a social being, cannot keep on going distancing himself/herself from the broad mass. As gold is extracted from washing clay, accretion—a mixture of many ingredients and experiences—posits accentuating the opportunity embedded in a calamity too.

Say for instance, Emperor Haile Selassie I had laid the footwork for the establishment of the organization of African Union and the dissemination of education in Ethiopia.

Derg too did try to materialize equal wealth distribution.

When it comes to Revolutionary Democracy of EPRDF its preferential treatment to farmers, its bids to give the economy the kiss of life and its policy impregnable to foreigners’ intervention could be listed as its strong sides. Foregrounding this creating a unified party is doable, though some dissenters find this hard to stomach.

The unreformed EPRDF’s Achilles’ Heels comprise the divisive wedge it adored to push among citizens or entrepreneurs disparaging most of them retrogressive. It favored few on grounds of political affinity

not giving room for a genuine democracy and freedom in the true sense of the word. It was trying to sway the heart of citizens simply via catering to their material needs.

Under the guise of federalism, revolutionary democracy was exercising centralism. TPLF-driven EPRDF was dispatching tailored programs others had to buy with alacrity. TPLF, in its turn, was being run by a finger-counted family members trampling on the rights of even its own people—Tegaru.

TPLF was smothering political pluralism tacitly closing doors on parties striving to outpace TPLF in the state. Some ethnic groups there were muzzled not to voice complaints. Staging demonstration was unthinkable As such, the federalism it theoretically introduced was a paper tiger one in diametrically contrast to what TPLF practically demonstrated.

For instance, though outwardly TPLF seemed to support the question to make Oromifa the second working language, it was covertly downplaying the question.

Not only that, contravening the very ideals enshrined in the constitution, which it playacts it strictly observes, TPLF was implicitly turning a deaf ear to Sidama peoples’ appeal to metamorphose into a state.

Also, committing inhuman crimes revolting to hear, it was turning the constitution a laughingstock. It was to its advantage it adhered to the constitution. But if it finds things are to its disadvantages, it misconstrues the constitution leaving a door ajar for public mistrust.

Creating crony capitalism and blessing off contraband trade, TPLF was giving a green light to state-sponsored corruption hatching under its overcoat endowment Funds like EFFORT and SUR Construction. Facilitating a fertile ground for its top members, posted on high government positions, it was siphoning the nation’s wealth scot-free. It had made over 30 million USD, gained the hardest way, go astray emasculating the country’s capacity of coping up with rainy days.

Tragic as it may sound, these finger-counted phony politicians from a single family tree prove adamant to share the money stashed away in foreign banks even to people that hail from their ethnic group let alone fellow Ethiopians.

Putting on a physiological carapace they are seen trying to avoid conscience pangs while they see millions suffer due to depravity, also while the country gaspes for air for want of hard currency badly needed for importing items like drugs.

Needles to mention the international community must cooperate in the effort to channel back or reimburse the money towards Ethiopian Development.

Adding an insult to injury, the phony politicians are seen aspiring to regain political position creating disturbances and fishing in a troubled water swimming against the tide of accretion that gained credence among the major segment of Ethiopians. This bent will remain their nightmare.
