
ADDIS ABABA –The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council and the Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Presidents have called on the Muslim community to support the needy while celebrating Eid al-Adha.
In a press briefing regarding the celebration of the 1,446thEid al-Adha, the Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council President, Sheikh Hajji Ibrahim Tufa, said that the Muslim community has a social, religious, and moral responsibility to celebrate the holiday with those in need of support.
As a celebration known for its food festivities, he said that the holiday should be marked in togetherness with neighbors, relatives, and the less fortunate.
He further called upon Muslim faithful to observe the holiday while upholding peaceful practices, saying that maintaining peace is part of Islamic duties. He also extended his best wishes to all Muslims at home and abroad.
The Addis Ababa Islamic Affairs Supreme Council Vice President, Sheikh Fetihudin Haji Zeynu, also urged celebrants to cooperate with security personnel to minimize risks in crowded areas where Eid al-Adha is observed.
“This holiday is the most distinguished day of the year for all Muslims. Maintaining our peace, unity, and collaboration is the highest priority,” he said.
According to him, more than 1,600 volunteers will participate in facilitating the peaceful celebration of the festival.
He also acknowledged government bodies, particularly security institutions and the Addis Ababa Mayor’s Office, for their efforts in ensuring a smooth preparation for the festivity.
Addis Ababa, one of the world’s cities that hosts major events, requires the cooperation of celebrants with security personnel to ensure a peaceful and safe holiday, he added.
