
-Nation launches second nationwide pollution prevention mov’t
ADDIS ABABA- The Environment Protection Authority has urged all communities and media outlets to contribute to the success of the Clean Ethiopia Campaign, which aims to ensure a pollution-free and environmentally friendly environment for citizens.
The Authority announced that Ethiopia has launched its second nationwide pollution prevention campaign to promote environmental responsibility and combat pollution, under the theme “Making Clean Ethiopia a Culture.”
The Authority’s Director General Eng. LeliseNeme briefed journalists that the national campaign to prevent environmental pollution will be held for six months starting from June 5, 2025, in line with World Environment Day, which is being marked for the 52nd time globally and the 32nd time nationally.
She pointed out that the public campaign is nationwide, aiming to prevent environmental pollution and ensure compliance with the law.
The campaign is designed to address plastic pollution, water, soil, air, noise, invasive weeds, and solid waste disposal activities, as well as to strengthen environmental and community impact assessments, which will be implemented consistently, she mentioned.
The campaign also aims to promote the proper disposal of hazardous chemicals, raise awareness, enforce laws, and recognize good practices among public and private sectors and individuals working in environmental protection, she noted.
Lelise said that the second round of the movement will help further strengthen the activities started in the first round. The Clean Ethiopia Movement is a demonstration of the effort to create a pollution-free and environmentally friendly environment for citizens.
The campaign will be carried out in all states and city administrations, aiming to raise public awareness by directly reaching 15 million citizens and 50 million through the media, she said.
According to the Director General, the first round of the Clean Ethiopia Movement created an enabling environment to realize a pollution-free Ethiopia with the participation of over 7.3 million citizens.
