ADDIS ABABA – The European Union in Ethiopia has pledged to continue providing assistance to help the country improve its digital ecosystem.
EU’s Business Environment and Investment Climate (BEIC) Project Team Leader Alberto Gómez told The Ethiopian Herald that the EU supports Ethiopia’s efforts towards prosperity by building the capacity of professionals in the digital sphere to increase quality services for the community.
According to Gómez, the BEIC Project in Ethiopia is funded by the European Union and implemented by The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).
“GIZ has extensive experience in the digital sector, which is crucial for Ethiopia in creating innovative systems, encouraging better communication, and strengthening health in social and economic aspects,” he said.
He noted that the EU has been operating on significant components in Ethiopia, such as improving the business environment, building institutional capacity, and facilitating electronic public-private dialogue (E-PPD).
According to Gómez, the electronic consultation portal that Ethiopia recently introduced is a key tool for encouraging citizen participation in the legislative process while ensuring quality public services.
He emphasized that such a digital platform will play an important role in improving the country’s international legal transparency, attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), and supporting cross-border cooperation in legislative development.
