ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Innovation and Technology (MInT) has inaugurated 24 smart communication rooms across regional states, city administrations, and federal ministerial offices.
Inaugurating the project virtually yesterday, Innovation and Technology Minister Belete Molla (PhD) said the initiative aims to enhance the government’s digital communication infrastructure in line with the Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy.
“The capacity of regional and city administrations to adopt technological solutions remains uneven,” the Minister noted. “This project, implemented with financial support of the World Bank, will help address those disparities by enabling real-time data sharing and efficient communication among government offices.”
Belete also highlighted that the digital facilities will streamline services, improve coordination between institutions, and ultimately support the country’s broader goal of establishing a digital economy. “Digitalization and digital economy are top priorities for the government,” he added.
The five-year Digital Ethiopia 2025 strategy, which is nearing to conclusion with only one month remaining, has achieved key milestones. An extension of this strategy, Digital Ethiopia 2030, is currently in preparation and expected to build on lessons learned to further strengthen the country’s digital transformation efforts, according to him.
House of People’s Representatives’ Human Resources, Development, Employment, and Technology Affairs Standing Committee Chairperson, Negeri Lencho (PhD), praised the new initiative and called on government institutions to accelerate their transition to digital-led operations and work cultures.
