MIDROC expands industrial footprint in Afar with new factory

AWASH 7 – MIDROC Investment Group has inaugurated a new filler production plant in Awash 7 town, further solidifying its industrial presence in Ethiopia and reinforcing its long-standing partnership with the Afar State.

The new Awash Filler Factory, launched as part of MIDROC’s expansion strategy, will produce essential inputs for other manufacturing operations and aims to reduce Ethiopia’s reliance on imports, saving the country a significant amount of foreign currency.

The factory was inaugurated yesterday in the presence of Afar State Chief Administrator Awol Arba and MIDROC CEO Jemal Ahmed.

Speaking at the event, Chief Administrator Awol Arba hailed the investment as a milestone for the region’s economic growth and employment prospects. “We are proud to host such a prominent company. This factory is not only a symbol of development but also a shared asset for our community. We are committed to protecting and partnering with it,” he stated.

He emphasized that the plant’s presence reflects Afar’s growing openness to investment and highlighted its potential to create job opportunities for local youth and residents.

MIDROC Investment Group CEO Jemal Ahmed noted that the new facility is a continuation of the company’s two-decade engagement in the region. “This factory is part of our broader expansion plan in Afar, which is rich in untapped resources and investment opportunities,” he said.

He reaffirmed the company’s commitment to contributing to regional development through sustainable industrial projects and job creation.

According to the company, the factory’s products will replace a significant volume of imported materials, thereby contributing to Ethiopia’s economic resilience and industrial self-sufficiency.

The launch marks another step in MIDROC’s broader industrialization agenda and signals growing investor confidence in Afar as a destination for large-scale manufacturing.
