US’s Troy Group to advance Ethiopia’s document security services

ADDIS ABABA – The U.S.-based Troy Group has pledged to assist Ethiopia’s efforts toward document security and authentication services by bridging existing gaps.

The U.S. Embassy in Ethiopia organized an event on Tuesday highlighting advanced technologies and their growing impact on security and governance in Ethiopia, in collaboration with Troy Group, a trusted U.S. manufacturer of secure printing solutions, and in the presence of senior government officials.

The U.S. Embassy Addis Ababa Acting Deputy Chief of Mission, Naomi Fellows, said that document security and authentication in the current age of artificial intelligence (AI) is absolutely essential. In this regard, the Troy Group provides advanced secure printing solutions, contributing to improved security and governance in Ethiopia.

“By advancing these security measures, Ethiopia makes significant step to protect citizens’ initiatives and ensuring integrating important transaction. U.S. Embassy has a key interest in security physical document especially this application and appreciate secure document across Ethiopia,” she added.

She further stated that the U.S. will continue its technical support for Ethiopia’s efforts in achieving document security and implementing digital measures with high-security features for physical documents. Troy assures transparent integrity and personal identity verification while working with the Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency (CRRSA). This collaboration showcases international partnership, which is key to technological advancement.

CRRSA’s Director General Yonas Alemayehu on his part, said that his institution has been among the oldest and leading government entities in Ethiopia since its establishment in 1935. The first civil registration in modern Ethiopian history dates back to 1942, with the first records made in Addis Ababa during His Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I’s reign.

According to him, history shows that Ethiopia is a distinguished country in documentation, management, and standardization of civil services, among other areas. The Addis Ababa Civil Registration and Residency Service Agency is one of the oldest and has been instrumental in verifying forged documents.

The country is working with various concerned bodies to secure personal documents. Yonas also praised the U.S.- based Troy Group, which has provided unwavering support to Ethiopia’s journey toward document security and authentication services.

Furthermore, the issue was also highlighted on the margins of ID4Africa, which offers a unique opportunity to explore Ethiopian- U.S. business collaboration in support of institutional modernization.
