
ADDIS ABABA – The United States Ambassador to Ethiopia stated that his country has numerous cooperative initiatives that support STEM education in Ethiopia and Africa.
The Ambassador made the remark during a visit to a STEM center established by STEMpower Ethiopia at the Ethiopian Academy of Sciences (EAS). This visit highlighted the critical importance of visionary investments in innovation and youth-led education, according to the organization.
Information obtained from STEMpower Ethiopia indicated that Ambassador Ervin Massinga reaffirmed the existence of numerous areas of cooperation through U.S. Embassy initiatives, as well as with American private and public sector entities active in Ethiopia and across Africa.
“I am strongly impressed with the excellent work that is being accomplished in these centers and with the undeniable passion that the students exhibit. I commend the energy and vision that are displayed by the STEMpower team; truly impressive. You are creating the engineers and leaders of tomorrow. These programs are crucial to the emergence of Africa and to the development of our young people to keep pace with evolving technology on the continent. The presentation that I received this morning was inspiring and eye-opening, it proves clearly how well-organized, impactful programs like STEMpower have the capacity to transform communities and open doors to possibility for scores of youth,” Ambassador Massinga said.
During the visit, the Ambassador toured the center’s grounds, interacted with scholars, and personally observed how STEMpower’s experiential learning approach is shaping a generation of problem solvers and innovators.
STEMpower Ethiopia also highlighted that the organization’s initiatives, accomplishments, and potential collaborations focus on empowering young minds through hands-on STEM learning, entrepreneurship, and the development of practical skills essential for solving global challenges.
The organization also expressed its appreciation to the Ambassador for his “steadfast commitment” to advancing STEM education. “We are constructing a more robust, more innovative Africa together,” it said.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa shared on X that Ambassador Ervin Massinga had witnessed firsthand the transformative impact of youth-driven STEM education at STEMpower’s center. “Ambassador Massinga engaged with young innovators, toured the facilities, and praised the center’s hands-on approach to nurturing Africa’s next generation of engineers and leaders,” the Embassy added.
