Arba Minch’s 2nd phase makeover reaches over 65 % completion

ADDIS ABABA – Arba Minch City Administration has announced that the second phase of the corridor development project in the city has reached over 65% completion, marking a significant milestone in efforts to increase tourist influx.

City’s Municipal Service Manager, Gedamu Shambel, told the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that the total construction work of the second phase has surpassed 65% completion.

He stated that the city has been benefiting from various infrastructural developments, including green areas that are compatible with the local ecology and hold social significance, since the successful completion of the first phase of the corridor development project, which was executed at a cost of 180 million Birr.

According to Gedamu, more than six kilometers of corridors have been completed out of the planned 11 kilometers for both sides of the main roads in the second phase. The Service aims to complete the remaining five kilometers by the end of the current budget year.

“To complete the entire second phase of the corridor development, one billion Birr has been allocated, of which over 350 million Birr has already been spent,” Gedamu added.

He pointed out that the second phase of the project, which stretches from the city’s cultural center to a location locally known as Ajif, includes the construction of bicycle lanes.

Gedamu emphasized that the primary goals of the corridor development are to create a clean and livable environment, beautify towns and cities, and promote a sustainable shift in the working culture.

Arba Minch, named after its 40 natural springs, is rich in natural resources. He highlighted that the ongoing corridor development would enhance the city’s image and make it a more attractive destination for the growing number of tourists.

Furthermore, the project is creating numerous job opportunities and includes the installation of standard lighting, which has significantly transformed the city’s appearance, he added.
