Premier announces Ethiopia to host fifth P4G summit

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has officially been selected to host the fifth Partnering for Green Growth and the Global Goals 2030 (P4G) Summit in 2027.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) received the symbolic torch from Vietnam, the host of the fourth P4G Summit, marking the official handover.

In a message shared on his social media platforms, Prime Minister Abiy expressed Ethiopia’s deep commitment to carrying forward the mission of P4G. He stated that Ethiopia embraces the opportunity with determination and an unwavering commitment to build on the inspiring legacy of Vietnam, Colombia, Denmark, and the Republic of Korea

Reflecting on the achievements of the Hanoi Summit, he remarked that even small, well-integrated P4G projects can deliver meaningful impact and have strong potential for scaling up.

The Premier emphasized that Ethiopia’s 2027 summit will focus on green industrialization, climate-resilient agriculture, and the empowerment of youth and women as vital agents in the green transition. He noted that the summit will be guided by the core P4G principles of partnership, innovation, inclusivity, and action

In a separate post, the Prime Minister called for a renewed and transformative approach to global cooperation to address the climate crisis. He stressed that achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and fulfilling the targets of the Paris Agreement demand tangible and targeted support for countries most vulnerable to the devastating impacts of climate change

Speaking at the P4G Vietnam Summit 2025, which was held under the theme :Sustainable and People-Centered Green Transition, Prime Minister Abiy outlined three key action areas. He highlighted the importance of prioritizing climate finance by ensuring adequate, predictable, and sustainable resources. He called for increasing Africa’s share of global energy investment from the current two percent to twenty percent by 2030 in order to promote sustainable development and safeguard the continent’s vital ecosystems. He also urged for swift measures to protect nature by addressing biodiversity loss and land degradation

The Premier further underscored the importance of supporting grassroots initiatives such as Ethiopia’s Green Legacy Initiative and ensuring fair and equitable benefit-sharing mechanisms for local communities as an integral part of global energy investment
