Good Deeds Day, a global movement that encourages acts of kindness and community service, in collaboration with Serve Global, a nonprofit organization empowering youth through volunteerism, reiterated shared ideals on International Good Deeds Day as a worldwide initiative.
This year, the event, held at Meskerem Primary School in Addis Ababa, aimed to inspire volunteerism and promote the importance of doing well. Over the course of three months, close to 35 young students participated in a project where they voluntarily planted various vegetables. These vegetables were then donated to the less fortunate, teaching the students the value of giving back to their community.
One young volunteer expressed, “I’ve come to understand that we must give back to our community somehow, and this project inspires us to do well.” This initiative fosters a sense of responsibility among the youth, encouraging them to care for their community and country from an early age.
The administration and staff of Meskerem Primary School wholeheartedly embraced this initiative, working diligently alongside the students to set a noteworthy example. One teacher remarked, “This project is not just about planting vegetables; it is about cultivating compassion and responsibility among our future leaders.”
In her speech, Senna from CorpsAfrica emphasized, “Volunteerism does not need labeling or a specific time; it is something you should practice daily.” Her words resonated with participants, highlighting the importance of consistent acts of kindness in everyday life. This initiative not only encourages individuals to think positively and speak kindly but also inspires everyone to contribute meaningfully to their communities.
Ultimately, Good Deeds Day exemplifies how collective efforts in volunteerism can lead to positive change and a stronger sense of community.
