MoFA partners with IFA to train 50 diplomats

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), in collaboration with the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA), has launched a four-month training program on policy and academic instruction for 50 diplomats at the Ethiopian Civil Service University.

Speaking at the launch event, IFA Director General Jafar Bedru stated that the recruitment program for new trainee diplomats began as part of the reform process, and these diplomats are expected to enhance the country’s diplomatic efforts.

He emphasized that they would strengthen Ethiopia’s diplomatic relations and improve the nation’s global standing. The training is also designed to equip diplomats with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively support and advance Ethiopia’s diplomatic engagements, he noted.

Ethiopian Civil Service University (ECSU) President NigusTadesse (PhD) remarked that this sixth-round training program for diplomats is part of the university’s broader initiative to enhance the country’s human resource development.

Given today’s complex geopolitical landscape, he underscored the importance of diplomats understanding this intricate environment and safeguarding the nation’s interests.

IFA’s Director General for Human Resource Development, Sintayehu Hunde, stated that the training aims to prepare diplomats to navigate both local and international affairs effectively and to protect Ethiopia’s national interests.

He added that the diplomats are expected to make significant contributions to Ethiopia’s diplomatic relations and strengthen its global connections.

Accordingly, 31 women and 19 men, totaling 50 trainee diplomats, are participating in the four-month training program.

The launch event was attended by Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, GedionTimothewos (PhD), IFA Director General Jafar Bedru, Minister of Democratic System Building Coordination at the Prime Minister’s Office, Bikila Hurisa (PhD), and other distinguished guests.
