Israeli ambassador backs Ethiopia’s diplomatic sea access quest

ADDIS ABABA – The Israeli Ambassador to Ethiopia, Abraham Nigusse(PhD) has affirmed that Ethiopia’s pursuit of sea access is a legitimate and diplomatic endeavor that aligns with principles of peaceful negotiation and regional cooperation.

In an exclusive interview with ENA , Ambassador Abraham highlighted the strategic importance of Ethiopia’s request to access a seaport, emphasizing that it is a fundamental necessity for the country’s growing economy and large population.

“Ethiopia, with its rapidly expanding economy and substantial population, requires direct access to a seaport to sustain its economic momentum,” the ambassador stated. “The peaceful and diplomatic approach currently being pursued by the Ethiopian government is appropriate and commendable.”

He further expressed confidence that the international community, especially nations that uphold justice and fairness, will recognize Ethiopia’s need for maritime access as a reasonable and justified demand.

“No country with Ethiopia’s economic potential and population size should remain landlocked,” he asserted. “This is a matter of strategic necessity, and I believe there is global understanding of this reality.”

Amb. Abraham underscored that resolving the issue through diplomatic channels would not only benefit Ethiopia but also contribute to regional stability and economic growth.

“There is no government or nation that does not grasp the importance of this issue. Therefore, it is a matter that should be addressed through diplomatic discussions and mutual agreements,” he said.

The Israeli diplomat reiterated his support for Ethiopia’s peaceful and constructive approach to securing access to a sea gateway, stressing that a resolution is vital for the country’s continued development and prosperity.
