Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Ethiopia’s Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to China, Tefera Derbew, stated that the two countries will continue to expand their collaboration in these sectors, ensuring a future of sustainable development and prosperity for both nations.

Tefera mentioned that Ethiopia’s efforts to strengthen its relationship with China focus on enhancing trade, investment, infrastructure development, education, and cultural exchange.

“We are working closely to attract more Chinese investments, particularly in the manufacturing, agriculture, mining, tourism, and technology sectors. In addition, we are striving to consolidate cooperation in the digital economy, air cargo connectivity, green energy, and enhanced vocational training in engineering and IT,” he noted.

According to him, Chinese investment in Ethiopia plays a transformative role in the country’s economic development, strengthening key sectors such as infrastructure, manufacturing, energy, telecommunications, agriculture, and mining.

These investments have accelerated industrialization, improved connectivity, and fostered job creation. Projects such as industrial parks and transport networks have positioned Ethiopia as one of Africa’s manufacturing hubs, while advancements in energy and digital infrastructure support sustainable growth, he added.

Tefera further stated that Ethiopia welcomes Chinese investment in key sectors such as textiles and garments, leather and leather products, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, energy, mining, technology, and tourism.

Similarly, the two countries are collaborating on large-scale projects, including roads, railways, and energy, which are crucial for achieving shared growth, he stated.

Furthermore, Ethiopia and China are working to solidify an all-weather strategic partnership in diplomacy, education, agriculture, investment, trade, infrastructure development, technology, green energy, the digital economy, business, and manufacturing, he said.

Likewise, Ethiopia can draw valuable lessons from its relationship with China, particularly in talent cultivation, modernizing agriculture, technology and innovation, AI and the digital economy, infrastructure development, economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges, Tefera noted.

It is worth recalling that the two countries recently marked the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relations under the theme, “55 Years: A Legacy of Strong Partnership for Shared Prosperity” in the presence of high-ranking officials and members of the European community.
