Ethiopia , Algeria forge trade , energy cooperation

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia and Algeria have agreed to enhance bilateral cooperation in trade and energy management, according to the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI).

MoTRI Minister Kassahun Gofe (PhD) held discussions with Algerian Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, focusing on strengthening ties between the two nations.

Kassahun highlighted the agreement to collaborate on trade and energy management, emphasizing Ethiopia’s commitment to expanding trade relations with African countries and outlining the nation’s ongoing efforts in this sector. He also underscored the historical relationship between Ethiopia and Algeria.

Minister Mohamed Arkab expressed Algeria’s extensive expertise in energy development and management, stating Algeria’s eagerness to collaborate with Ethiopia in this sector.

Both ministers agreed to facilitate technical and training exchanges in energy development and management. Mohamed also commended Ethiopia’s implemented reforms and their positive outcomes.

This visit reflects Algeria’s strategic approach to deepening cooperation with African nations, fostering sustainable development, promoting regional integration, and establishing mutually beneficial strategic partnerships across the continent.

Algeria established its embassy in Addis Ababa in 1976, while Ethiopia opened its embassy in Algiers in 2016, marking significant milestones in strengthening bilateral relations.

The steadily growing diplomatic engagement has fostered stronger people-to-people relations. Notably, since Algeria’s independence in 1962, the two nations have maintained a strong, fraternal relationship.

Algerian Minister of State, Minister of Energy, Mines, and Renewable Energy, Mohamed Arkab, arrived in Addis Ababa for a two-day working visit . Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, he was warmly welcomed by Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) State Minister Ambassador Birtukan Ayano.
