ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council has announced that the national Quran Hifz competition plays a vital role in promoting peace and development in the country.
The competition also aims to nurture a generation of youth who are well-versed in the Quran and its teachings.
The Office of the President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Head Ustaz Abubakar Ahmed stated that the Quran serves as a foundation for peace and social cohesion within the community. He emphasized that Quranic teachings not only foster individual growth but also provide solutions to national challenges, guiding the country towards sustainable development.
The competition, which showcases the memorization and recitation of the Quran, is designed to promote religious education while also instilling hope among the youth. “The Quran fosters community togetherness and offers solutions to national issues,” Ustaz Abubakar remarked. He further noted that the competition seeks to raise a generation that appreciates the Quran and embodies its values.
He highlighted that the Quran serves as a guiding principle for the community, helping individuals navigate life’s complexities with integrity and purpose. Additionally, it promotes social morality and ensures that its teachings are passed down to future generations.
During a media briefing yesterday, Ustaz Abubakar announced that the finals of the Quran Hifz competition will be held today in Addis Ababa, with both male and female participants competing.
The winners of the competition will receive impressive prizes, including an electric car, cash awards of 500,000 and 300,000 birr, as well as a trip to Hajj.
In parallel with the Quran competition, the 5th annual street Iftar event will take place at Meskel Square. The Iftar program, held during Ramadan, aims to strengthen communal bonds and highlight shared national values.
Ustaz Abubakar urged all stakeholders to contribute to the success of both the competition and the Iftar program, emphasizing that such collaborative efforts are essential for fostering a harmonious society.
