
• Launches 14th Ethiopian chamber int’l trade fair
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration (MoTRI) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the trade balance and fostering a market-driven foreign exchange system as part of broader economic reforms.
The 14th Ethiopian Chamber International Trade Fair, themed :”Buy Ethiopian, Invest in Ethiopia,” was officially launched on Thursday, serving as a platform to attract investment and strengthen Ethiopia’s role in international trade.
In his opening remarks, MoTRI Minister Kassahun Gofe (PhD) highlighted the government’s dedication to fostering a market-driven investment environment to boost economic growth.
“Enhancing the trade balance and implementing a market-oriented foreign exchange system are essential steps toward making Ethiopia an attractive destination for investment,” he said.
Kassahun also revealed that Ethiopia had surpassed its export revenue target, generating 3.84 billion USD in the past seven months—146% above projections. He emphasized that the trade fair will play a pivotal role in propelling export growth and economic development, particularly by strengthening Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector and increasing global competitiveness.
The government has introduced a dedicated ‘Quality Village’ initiative to improve product standards for both domestic and international markets. This initiative aims to ensure that Ethiopian products meet global quality benchmarks, enhancing their competitiveness in export markets.
The Ethiopian Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Associations Secretary-General Keneni Lemi (PhD) emphasized the trade fair’s significance in empowering local industries and enhancing Ethiopia’s visibility in global markets.
“This event provides a unique platform for networking, fostering collaboration, and unlocking new trade opportunities. It is an essential step in strengthening Ethiopia’s position in regional and international trade,” Keneni remarked.
The opening ceremony of the trade fair was attended by senior government officials, diplomatic corps, local and international enterprises, industry leaders and invited guests.
The event is expected to facilitate key business discussions, investment agreements, and trade partnerships aimed at accelerating Ethiopia’s economic transformation.
