ADDIS ABABA – The President and CEO of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Rev. Franklin Graham, has pledged continued support for Ethiopia in the social and economic sectors.
In a press conference held yesterday, Rev. Franklin Graham expressed his commitment to providing sustained support for Ethiopia in agriculture, infrastructure construction, and other areas.
He recalled that his association had drilled hundreds of water wells and constructed clean drinking water projects for rural communities in the 1980s.
“We have also supported agriculture and health projects,” he said.
The CEO also expressed his commitment to helping and meeting the needs of destitute children in Ethiopia.
“Ethiopia is a beautiful and strong country. I always look forward to spending time with the people of this great nation,” Rev. Franklin said.
He noted that he has witnessed many changes in Addis Ababa. “I come to Ethiopia to preach a message of peace, pray more for Ethiopia, and support the country in all aspects.”
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA) and the international Christian relief organization Samaritan’s Purse have been involved in various activities in Ethiopia, including schools and medical support, he said.
The General Secretary of the Ethiopian Council of Gospel Believers Churches, Rev. Dereje Jemberu, announced that churches will pray for Ethiopia’s peace, unity, and development this Saturday and Sunday at Meskel Square.
He emphasized that now is the right time for revival. “What we need is the Gospel of Jesus Christ—the only thing that can bring healing and change hearts and minds.”
“We are stretching out our hands to God to reverse the troubles our nation is facing,” Dereje stressed.
The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association is returning to Addis Ababa for a historic two-night event at Meskel Square on March 8-9, exactly 65 years after Billy Graham preached at Addis Ababa Stadium during the reign of Emperor Haile Selassie in 1960. The conference will be held under the theme: “Encountering God Ethiopia.”
