Bolstering partnership for development

Ethiopia is obtaining considerable support for its development endeavors from different partners and sisterly countries. The government should expedite efforts of development wisely to use the opportunities available.

As a developing country that is home to more than 130 million people Ethiopia needs to give special attention to speeding up its development activities to meet the rapidly growing demands of the population. The most common development activities that should be raised under this discussion are those that require the direct and in-depth intervention of the government to provide basic services to the people.

Among such services and activities are education, health, water supply, transportation, peace and governance services among others. These services need concerted efforts of the government and stakeholders, as they are the major pillars of addressing the needs of the people that are related to their human rights as enshrined in the international laws, conventions and related laws of the country.

However due to the limited economic capacity of the country, it would be very challenging for the government to shoulder them alone. The huge amount of investment and technical gap are likely to hinder the development activities that the government could execute.

It is important to step up the development cooperation with friendly countries and international development institutions to bridge the gap and advance to the desired level of development. International cooperation plays a crucial role in sustainable development by enabling countries to share knowledge, technology, and financial resources to address global challenges like climate change, poverty, and inequality that often transcend national borders, requiring collective action to achieve sustainable solutions across the world.

In this regard, the response obtained from various countries and organizations in the recent past are encouraging. For instance, recently the government of Germany has pledged to strengthen its support for humanitarian services in the country as well as other cross-country programs. The government of Finland, which is one of the long-standing development partners of the country, has also reaffirmed their support to Ethiopia’s development efforts that range from water supply to mega facilities.

Indeed Ethiopia has so far shown remarkable progress in various fields of development. For instance, it is taking remarkable measures to significantly address the global challenge for human society: climate change via its annual Green Legacy Initiative (GLI).

Coupled with other environmental protection activities the GLI can transform the countries situation by alleviating environmental challenges. The government is also streamlining urban development works through the massive nationwide corridor development program.

The new and modern corridor development provides ease and livability of urban areas thereby improving the health wellbeing and productivity of its residents.

These are but a few of the visible development endeavor in the country that are geared towards achieving decent standard of living to the people. It still needs to further replicate such aggressive development endeavor in all other sectors. For instance, there is a need for boosting the development in health education, transportation, job creation … etc.

Hence, in addition to mobilizing the community to contribute their best in the development of these sectors, the government has to explore all opportunities to obtain financial and technical support from development partners and other developed countries.
