ADDIS ABABA – The upcoming regular congress of the Prosperity Party (PP), scheduled for January 31st to February 2nd, is drawing significant global attention, according to the party’s Vice President.
In a press briefing yesterday, Adem Farah, Vice President of the Prosperity Party, highlighted three key factors contributing to this international interest. Firstly, the PP governs a nation with a rich history and diverse people. Any decisions made by the party will have a profound impact on the nation’s social, political, and economic landscape.
Secondly, the sheer size of the party itself commands global attention. “PP is one of the world’s top ten political parties, boasting a membership of approximately 15.7 million,” emphasized Adam. “Inclusivity, fairness, and the integration of indigenous knowledge are at the heart of the party.”
Thirdly, the party is widely anticipated to lead Ethiopia towards becoming an African symbol of prosperity, building upon its successful journey across various sectors.
The congress is expected to evaluate, assess, and amend previous policy directions, setting forth major new initiatives. Key areas of focus will include strengthening government institutions and fostering holistic national prosperity.
Adem emphasized that the congress will prioritize translating the government’s successful development initiatives into sustainable habits. Addressing inflation, creating employment opportunities, and sustaining economic growth are among the top priorities. In the social development sector, the congress will address challenges related to quality service delivery and good governance.
The party will also deliberate on policies aimed at enhancing national interests, strengthening friendly international relations, and elevating Ethiopia’s global standing.
Given the party’s core principle of upholding citizens’ and the nation’s dignity, public concerns will be addressed during the congress. The event will not only determine future directions but also appoint senior officials to lead the party until the next regular congress.
The Prosperity Party has been actively engaged in nation-building efforts, strengthening democratic systems, and fostering national consensus. Through the implementation of Home Grown Economic Reforms, the party has played a crucial role in driving economic growth, which recently reached 7.2 percent.
By leveraging the nation’s vast potential and pursuing a multi-sectoral approach, the party has also made significant strides in enhancing product and productivity across various sectors, Adem added.
The congress is expected to be attended by 1,700 PP delegates, as well as leaders from opposition parties and representatives from 15 international sister parties.
