ADDIS ABABA – As a founding member of numerous regional and international organizations, Ethiopia has played a pivotal role in advancing its national interests while contributing to continental and global goals.
Hosting the African Union (AU) headquarters has solidified Addis Ababa’s status as a hub for diplomacy.
With the upcoming 38th Assembly of the Heads of State and Government and the 46th Executive Council of the AU, Ethiopia is poised to further leverage its position.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Spokesperson Ambassador Nebiat Getachew, Ethiopia has meticulously prepared for the summit, prioritizing the effective advocacy of its national interests.
Addis Ababa University Researcher Dawit Mezgebe Tsegaye (PhD) told The Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA) that the significance of the annual AU meetings for Ethiopia . These gatherings provide a platform to amplify national interests, showcase diplomatic achievements, and contribute to the continent’s aspirations for prosperity and integration.
“Hosting thousands of delegates, including heads of state and international stakeholders, further strengthens Addis Ababa’s position as a global diplomatic center. Ethiopia must capitalize on this opportunity to bolster its national interests and advocate for collective African benefits.”
While challenges exist, achieving collective benefits necessitates collaboration among all stakeholders, including the government, civil society, and the private sector, Dawit noted.
2025 AU Summit Set for February in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The 38th Ordinary Session of the African Union Assembly will take place on February 15–16, 2025, here. This high-level gathering of the continent’s heads of state and government will deliberate on crucial issues affecting African nations and set policy priorities for the coming year.
