Ethiopia, Israel seek to deepen tourism ties

ADDIS ABABA – The Ambassador of Israel to Ethiopia, Avraham Niguse (PhD), has underlined the need for closer tourism relations between the two countries, highlighting their shared cultural traditions and the potential for enhanced people-to-people connections.

In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, Ambassador Avraham underscored the significance of tourism in fostering mutual understanding beyond economic benefits.

He noted that both Ethiopia and Israel celebrate Christmas and Epiphany, creating a unique opportunity to connect people through shared cultural experiences.

“Tourism plays a vital role in bridging the gap between our two nations,” stated Amb. Avraham. “It’s crucial for Ethiopian youth to learn about the history and realities of Israel, and for Israeli youth to experience the beauty and hospitality of Ethiopia firsthand.”

He further emphasized the importance of cultural exchange, stating, “Cultural exchanges go beyond economic gains. They promote mutual understanding and strengthen the bonds between our people.”

Amb. Avraham encouraged increased tourism during holidays like Christmas and Easter, believing that such exchanges will deepen the relationship between the two countries.

He also acknowledged the strong support Israel has consistently shown for Ethiopia, despite challenges. “Despite difficult circumstances, Israelis have consistently demonstrated their concern for Ethiopia through various initiatives, including visits from delegations to express solidarity.”

To further enhance cultural exchange, Israel plans to organize events showcasing Israeli food and music, and vice versa. “Learning about each other’s culinary traditions can foster love and affection between our peoples,” Amb. Avraham concluded, emphasizing the importance of building stronger and more enduring ties between Ethiopia and Israel.
