Trainees optimistic about Ethiopia’s digital transformation

ADDIS ABABA – Trainees of the national ‘Five Million Ethiopian Coders’ initiative explained the significant contribution of the program to accelerate the country’s digital transformation.

Approached by the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), the participants said that the initiative is highly anticipated to foster the country’s technology and innovation sector and job creation.

Trainee Dagim Tewodros, who is receiving data analysis training expressed that the launch of the program has multidimensional benefits for Ethiopian youths.

According to him, accessing the unique training course for free is a huge opportunity for the young generation.

The training courses would contribute to get an exceptional knowledge and skill especially for technology students, he indicated.

The courses are also globally recognized and critically needed. For instance, he mentioned that data analysis is a highly required skill by Amazon, while coding is also essential for an online business. “We would access better job opportunities in the future,” he expressed.

Furthermore, digital skill training would highly contribute to facilitating the production of skilled manpower to the realization of Digital Ethiopia. It would contribute to enable the country become among the leading nations in online jobs, Dagim said, as he urged the youth to utilize this opportunity.

ASTU Information Technology Software Engineer Filix Itisa said that offering coders training for five million youths is an immense contribution to realize Digital Ethiopia. Since one cannot be out of globalization, creating a generation that can cope up with digital technology is critical.

According to him, Ethiopians should get trained for free using this vital opportunity since the courses being given under the initiative are too expensive and hardly available anywhere else.

He called on the youth and the community at large to utilize the opportunity to bring solutions for problems in health, education, agriculture, and other sectors.

Since the launch of the initiative, some 422, 842 individuals are taking the training and over 104, 000 have received certificates, it was learnt.
