ADDIS ABABA – All businesses are urged to renew their licenses before the deadline on January 8th, 2025. As of last Tuesday , there are 184,733 businesses that have not yet completed their 2024 renewals, according to the Addis Ababa City Administration Trade Bureau.
“Don’t wait!” stressed Habiba Siraj, Head of the Trade Bureau, during a press conference. “With only 21 days remaining, we urge all businesses to renew their licenses online for a smooth and efficient process.” The renewal window began on July 8th, 2024.
The Trade Bureau has implemented a modernized operating system, making business license registration and renewals easier than ever before. Since July 8th, the Bureau, along with city officials and stakeholders, has ensured a seamless online renewal process, it was learnt.
Accordingly, over 211,000 businesses have already renewed their licenses. Nearly 47,700 new business licenses have been issued since July 8th, reflecting a 10% increase compared to the same period last year . On other hand, over 15,000 businesses has exited the market, representing a 17% decrease compared to the previous year.
The Trade Bureau remains committed to fostering a balanced and prosperous business environment. Their efforts include regulating supply and demand to stabilize prices for residents and facilitate smooth trade practices.
To further stimulate the city’s economy, the city administration has extended working hours for commercial establishments and tax services. This initiative, implemented recently, aims to benefit both businesses and consumers.
Habiba Siraj concluded by encouraging businesses to take advantage of the favorable conditions currently offered by the city, particularly in areas undergoing development.
