Ethiopia pushes for stability in post-ATMIS

U.S. acknowledges ENDF’s role to Somalia’s peace

ADDIS ABABA – Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Taye Atske-Selassie raised Ethiopia’s concerns over the post-ATMIS arrangement with U.S. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Ambassador Mike Hammer.

The Minister also reaffirmed Ethiopia’s ongoing efforts to reduce tensions in the region during the meeting on Friday.

The discussion focused on peace and security in the Horn of Africa, with particular attention to the situation in Tigray. Ambassador Taye reiterated Ethiopia’s commitment to fully implementing the Pretoria Peace Agreement. He also called for Ethiopia’s reinstatement in the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).

During a separate press briefing, Ambassador Hammer acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) in Somalia in the fight against Al-Shabaab. “From a U.S. perspective, our focus is on supporting Somalia’s fight against Al-Shabaab. This  requires a strong relationship between Ethiopia and the U.S.,” Hammer stated.

The U.S. Special Envoy also emphasized the importance of peaceful relations in the Horn of Africa, particularly between Ethiopia and Somalia, urging both countries to seek cooperation for mutual progress.
