Nation celebrates “Diversity Day”
ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) expressed that Ethiopia is pushing towards prosperity with the strong efforts of its diverse but united people.
The country has celebrated “Diversity Day” yesterday under the theme: “Our Diversity for Our Peace” aimed at encouraging diversity, promoting and utilizing resources, and sustaining diversity and culture.
In his message regarding the Day, the premier posted on his X platform that Ethiopia is a country of many nationalities, languages, cultures, beliefs, civilizations and heroes.
“The country is diverse. All these diversities are ours and are given for us from us. We respect everyone of them. We are proud of them all,” he stated.
The prime minister added that “Our diversity is our feature, and our unity is our sovereignty. These social graces are found in one country, Ethiopia. Our goal is nation’s prosperity and that is our synergy.”
“We are not disunited communities; we are not the same type of oppressed, rather we are Ethiopians with a common national unity,” he wrote.
By the same token, the Government Communication Service (GCS) expressed that Ethiopians should celebrate Diversity Day all year round since their diversity is numerous.
According to GCS, Ethiopians live together tolerating their numerous differences including ethnics, languages, attitudes, geographical locations, food systems, dressing and life styles. That is why Ethiopians’ diversity is wide. This diversity is beauty, wealth, and a source of pleasure and solidarity.
GCS also noted that the dressing, dancing, and other cultures of the highland community is a source of pleasure and lessons for the lowlands and vice versa. It is a blessing to live in Ethiopia, where unity is natural, while sharing the heritage of diversity.
“Though Ethiopia is home to diversity, it has a people with rich culture and tradition who live in harmony,” GCS stressed.
The GCS further stated that the national system that accommodates diversity is built on deep foundations. Ethiopians are discussing on overcoming challenges and striving for closing gaps peacefully. In the New Year, “we use the diversity for peace building, succeeding the development plan, utilizing holistic prosperity, and the likes.” BY MESERET BEHAILU
