Diaspora festival to enhance bonds with homeland

ADDIS ABABA – The three-day long festival dubbed as ”Back to Your Origin Summer Fest” is believed to create the opportunity for the participants of second generation Diaspora to strengthen their bonds and to know their country of origin better, Ethiopian Diaspora Service(EDS) said.

This was disclosed on Sunday while commencing the festival organized for the Second-Generation Ethiopians Homecoming at Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa .

The festival will serve as a vibrant platform for showcasing Ethiopian art, Sport, and culinary traditions, while fostering traditions within the Ethiopian Diaspora, according to EDS.

The summer fest is part of the third round of the second generation Ethiopians homecoming which has been underway from the onset of the ongoing Ethiopian rainy season.

EDS Deputy Director General Belayneh Aknaw said the festival will pave ways to encourage the Diaspora to engage in the transfer of knowledge, skills and technology as well as to enable them actively participate in tourism, trade and investment sectors.

The event includes fashion show, sporting event, expo, and entertainment which will create an opportunity for participants to know their root better and will help them to promote the country’s rich history, tradition and cultural assets, among others.

Organized by the EDS in collaboration with Coach Carlos Summer Camp, Back to Your Origin Summer Fest is offering an enriching experience that celebrates the essence of Ethiopian creativity and tradition, it was learned.

The second generation Ethiopians homecoming aims at strengthening the bond between Ethiopians living abroad to their country of origin.

Belayneh said the festival will pave ways to encourage the Diaspora to engage in the transfer of knowledge, skills and technology as well as to enable them actively participate in tourism, trade and investment sectors.
