Corporation to commence EV maintenance

ADDIS ABABA – Preparations are well underway to launch electric vehicles maintenance service in Addis Ababa, Ethiopian Construction Works Corporation (ECWC) disclosed.

The corporation announced that it is on the way to launch electric vehicle maintenance services unit in its new maintenance workshop center located in the capital.

ECWC CEO, Eng. Yonas Ayalew said that the corporation has received partnership requests from Qatari, Chinese and other Asian companies to start repairing of EVs in the corporation’s maintenance center in Addis Ababa.

“Following this, the corporation will start to manufacture EV charger here, followed by assembling vehicles.”

He expressed that the primary objective of the corporation is providing EV maintenance in Ethiopia in collaboration with foreign companies and overcoming the existing maintenance problem as well as recruiting competent professionals in the area to satisfy local demand.

The CEO noted that the new maintenance center of the corporation which is located in Kality area, in Addis,is the sole maintenance service provider to electric vehicles in Ethiopia.

ECWC is also working with local offices and manufacturing companies like cement factory and the Federal Housing Corporation to finalize projects as scheduled, Yonas said.

These days, the corporation is undertaking some70 projects nationwide at the cost of 50 billion Birr, he mentioned.

On the other hand, the CEO stated that the corporation has a huge workshop and training center that provides practical training for its staffers to become competent scholarship training provider to the Horn of African (HoA) nations in engineering and flights management fields.

Moreover, it is working to substitute imported machineries and construction materials to feed the local market and to curb hard currency shortages, as to him.

The company has planned to increase annual profit from 1.4 billion to 10 billion Birr and also striving to boost its revenue from11.8 billion Birr to 100 billion Birr in the coming five years, Yonas said.
