Ethiopia, England lawmakers vow to augment relations

ADDIS ABABA – House of Peoples’ Representatives (HPR) of Ethiopia and Member of the United Kingdom Parliament have discussed on way to further bolster the parliamentary relation between the two countries.

HPR Standing Committee on International Cooperation, Peace and Security Chairperson Dima Noggo (PhD) said that the main objective of yesterday’s discussion is to strengthen the parliamentary relation between the two countries.

Ethiopia and United Kingdom have been enjoying one of the oldest bilateral relationships since 19 century and the two countries have been enjoying strong and notable diplomatic ties since then, he said.

He further stated that : “We have been discussed on the future areas of cooperation between the two parliaments based on common issues of concern, and working to enhance relation to the highest level.”

 Ethiopia will learn lot from England parliament which has long experience as the standing committee of Ethiopia is newly established and young, he said.

Strengthening parliamentary diplomacy is among the core activity of the parliament and the parliament has been undertaken many activities so as to strengthen ties with different countries. Accordingly the parliament has been conducted wide  range of dialogue with regard to key international issues and the discussion with the United Kingdom Parliaments is part of strengthening ties, he remarked.

He stated that Ethiopia has been participated in the 2ndInternational Parliamentary Conference “Russia-Africa” was held in Russia, Moscow and the delegation has been discussed with different member of parliament on various issues of the country thereby enhancing ties, he noted.

England Conservative Member of Parliament for Robin Millar said that the two countries have historic relations based on common interest working to further strengthen relation. The delegation has discussed on some of things that both countries have in common and the opportunity of building historic relationship as well.

It was learnt that the discussion would strengthen the communication and build strong parliamentary relationship between Ethiopia and United Kingdom..
