Ethiopia is not only the land where several nations, nationalities and peoples live in harmony. It is also a land where people from several countries frequent it for business, tourism or other reasons. Sarah Gune Simon Duku, is an MBA student from South Sudan. She has successfully completed her studies at Arba Minch University in Ethiopia, thanks to a scholarship offered by the Ethiopian government.
In an exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald, Sarah shared her experiences before and after coming to Ethiopia. Sarah revealed that over the past two years, she has witnessed the true image of Ethiopia and its peaceful and welcoming people.
According to her, even before she witnessed the real Ethiopia and its people`s harmonious living style, she was convinced about the fact that Ethiopia is the land of diversity where multiculturalism is entertained happily.
African countries share common culture and identity. This is especially true in those countries that share common boundaries. Having a positive interaction with these people will create a more peaceful situation and exchange of culture as it will further bring people from different backgrounds into one point.
In this regard, the Ethiopian government is showing unreserved effort to ensure harmonious relationships among African countries. Provision of scholarship opportunities to various African countries is a good indication how the Ethiopian government is decisive to ensure fraternity between and among the people of the African countries.
Sarah praised the Ethiopian government’s commitment to ensuring regional stability and unity, saying that East African countries share not only common borders but also cultures and identities. She emphasized the fact that neighboring countries should work together for the greater good of East Africa.
The scholarship opportunity provided by the Ethiopian government to neighboring countries is a testament to its dedication to regional stability, prosperity, and unity, according to Sarah.
Anna Nyakout Tuel, is another Student from South Sudan who benefitted from the scholarship program and graduated in Tourism and Hospitality Management from this same University. She has also shared her positive experience as a scholarship recipient from the Ethiopian government.
In an interview, Anna echoed the sentiments of her fellow students, Sarah Gune and Simon Duku, who also received a scholarship from the Ethiopian government.
Anna praised the government’s commitment to promoting regional unity and cooperation, saying that the scholarship has not only benefited her personally but also helped to strengthen ties between South Sudan and Ethiopia.
Like Sarah, Anna too had a distorted image about Ethiopia before coming to the country. However, her experiences during her studies have changed her perspective, and she now appreciates the warm hospitality and friendly nature of the Ethiopian people.
Anna emphasized that the scholarship opportunity has not only enabled her to pursue her educational goals but also given her the chance to learn from and share experiences with students from other countries in the region. She believes that such initiatives can help to foster greater understanding and cooperation among East African nations.
The Ethiopian government’s scholarship program is seen as a shining example of its commitment to regional stability, prosperity, and unity, and Anna’s story is just one of the many testaments to its success.
The other foreign students that the Ethiopian Press Agency approached were from Somaliland. These students, namely Abdulahi Abdu Soble, Abdurhaman Seid and Mohamed Abdulahi have successfully completed their class in Arba-Minch University.
As scholarship students from neighboring countries, all the three had no difficulties to assimilate themselves with their Ethiopian counterparts. They were freely enjoying every day with their classmates. “There are six Somaliland students here in Arba Minch University. We all are able to successfully complete our class and are eager to witness the graduation ceremony with our friends. We consider Arba-Minch as our second home. We had a wonderful time here at the university and outside of the compound. All the people whom we met were hospitable. This has created a sense of belongingness to us”, said Abdulahi.
According to them, Ethiopia is truly a land of hospitality with welcoming people. This great nation is offering a scholarship opportunity for various neighboring countries. This is a great trend that should be strengthened.
