In a media briefing on a strategic partnership with the Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology (AASTU), INSA Cyber Excellent Center Director Bishawu Beyene said that his organization has empowered and graduated 194 students in the field of cyber security and related disciplines over the past two years.
These professionals are now making their mark in a variety of sectors, serving in vital roles within airlines, banks, the INSA, and other private and government offices. Their expertise is crucial in ensuring the security and resilience of Ethiopia’s digital infrastructure as the country continues to embrace technological advancements, he stated.
He further noted that the third round of the National Cyber Talent Challenge program is set to open its doors, offering a unique opportunity for Ethiopia’s budding cyber security experts to showcase their skills and secure their place in the country’s growing digital landscape.
The program, which organized by INSA will run from May 24 to June 7, 2024 aspiring participants to register online through the dedicated website, https://talent.Insa.gov.et.
The program is open to individuals 11 years old and older, reflecting the center’s commitment to fostering early interest in cyber security. Prior to the competition, participants will undergo a month-long intensive training program to hone their technical skills and knowledge, he noted.
“The cyber security industry is facing a global talent and human resource shortage, and Ethiopia is no exception,” the Director highlighted. “This program aims to bridge that gap by identifying and nurturing the best and brightest minds in the country.”
The Director emphasized the importance of proactive measures in addressing cyber threats, stating that educational systems are usually no longer adequate. “By training exceptional individuals and equipping them with the latest tools and techniques, we can better prepare our nation to defend against evolving cyber-attacks.”
The areas of the National Cyber Talent Program reflect the diverse skillsets required in the modern cyber security landscape, like cyber security, technology and system deployment, airspace management, and other emerging fields that are essential in safeguarding Ethiopia’s digital future.
“INSA needs collaboration between private and concerned government parties to enhance the level of security and protection of our nation’s digital ecosystem,” said the Director. “As we move forward, we are confident that these graduates will play a pivotal role in ensuring Ethiopia’s cyber security resilience and positioning the country as a leader in the digital age.
