ADDIS ABABA – The legendary singer Getachew Kassa passed away at 80 on last Tuesday’s night while undergoing treatment at Yekatit 12 Hospital here.
The classic Artist is known for his popular songs such as Hageren Atnkwat, Wub Addis Ababa, Sayish Esasalu, Kefechiwuna Meskotun, Yekereme Fiker, Tiz balgne gizie, and others. Particularly Hageren Atnkwat, it is said that the song “Don’t touch my country” raised Ethiopia and allowed him to be ever-remembered in the hearts and minds of many people. The Singer, Getachew Kassa, is survived by a daughter.
According to various available informations, the singer used to be active in the music industry for over five decades. Tough he spent almost three decades residing abroad, Getachew did not renounce his nationality.
