Inclusive AI revolution to accelerate industrial development

The role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is dramatically growing and widening. Its involvement in various sectors such as agriculture, health, business, education and others took everyones attenttion. In every sectors it has started to be used the technology is proving that it can make difference by increasing productivity, reducing expenses, enhancee quality and decrease production time.

Recently, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Huawei, a Chinese based international information and communications technology, jointly launched the Global alliance on artificial intelligence for industry and manufacturing (AIM Global) at the World AI Conference in Shanghai. The importance of AIM is to build a future where AI is a force for good and to make AI revolution inclusive.

A press release received from Huawei Ethiopia Country Office tells that UNIDO, Huawei and other partners officially launched the Global Alliance on Artificial Intelligence for Industry and Manufacturing during the sixth World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC)

AIM Global aims to integrate public and private partners to foster the use of and innovation around AI in industry and manufacturing so as to accelerate the development of the industry sector especially the manufacturing industry.

Gerd Müller, UNIDO Director General, during the opening ceremony of WAIC said that “It is our shared responsibility to ensure that advancements in the field of AI are made in a manner that is safe, ethical, sustainable and inclusive. AIM Global recognizes the importance of bridging the digital divide between nations and industries, and ensuring that no one is left behind in the AI revolution.

AIM Global will be at the forefront of shaping the AI landscape. Let us work collaboratively to build a future where AI is a force for good, where its benefits are accessible to all, and where innovation thrives in harmony with our shared values.”

Vice President Corporate Communi cations at Huawei, Vicky Zhang, for her part noted that “Working closely with UNIDO and other Alliance partners, Huawei will use AI to bring new momentum to industrial development.” She further added that Huawei is building a strong foundation in computing capabilities and is launching multiple large models designed for specific industries. “Our goal is to develop AI solutions that more effectively serve all industries – and that better support scientific research.”

According to the press statement, the Alliance will benefit from the local networks and insights of UNIDO’s investment and technology promotion offices that offer support to subject matter experts (SME) globally. The resulting deep understanding of actual SME challenges across sectors will inform the strategy of AIM Global in order to maximize its impact. UNIDO is committed to supporting pioneering efforts to enhance industrial competitiveness and sustainable development through Aim, it added.

Focusing on four key areas, AIM Global aims to serve as a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and the development of best practices in the AI.

Facilitating research and development of AI technologies specific to industry and manufacturing, engage alliances to develop and promote ethical guidelines for the use of AI in industry and manufacturing including environmental as well as societal criteria, convey policy recommendations to governments and international organizations on the use of AI in industry and manufacturing and promoting the adoption of best practices for the use of AI in industry and manufacturing are the four key focus areas of AIG Global, according to the statement.

Huawei revealed that it will actively support AIM Global with case studies on industrial AI implementation, insights from its intensive research and development as well as making its global network of experts.
