Muslim faithful celebrate 1444th Eid al-Fitr!
Muslim faithful were in fasting during the holy month of Ramadan. The 1444th holy month of Ramadan was started on Thursday 23rd of March 2023. Following the end of the month-long sundown-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan, Muslims worldwide has just celebrated Eid al-Fitr religious holiday that marks the end of Ramadan.
The Ethiopian Muslims were fasting and participating in different charitable activities especially in supporting the needy during Ramadan month. Especially, during the Iftar ceremony (breaking fasting ceremony), a program to enjoy food following the whole day fasting, after the sunset, Muslims enjoyed the prepared meal with the needy and with relatives. Ethiopian Muslims are known for their generosity, supporting the needy and doubling charitable activities especially during Ramadan.
As usual, Ethiopian Muslims were participating in different charitable, voluntary and other exemplary activities to help others during the fasting month Ramadan. During the Ramadan month, preparing street Iftar ceremony is becoming one part of voluntary program.
During this year Ramadan, Muslim faithful in Addis Ababa and in different cities across Ethiopia had prepared a grand street Iftar programs. In Addis Ababa, the “3rd Grand Ethiopia Street Iftar 2023” ceremony was held on April 8, the 17th day of Ramadan, at the heart of Addis Ababa, Meskel Square and surrounding streets. Tens of thousands of celebrants did attend the massive evening Street Iftar meal and prayers ceremony.
This was a picture taken during this year’s Ramadan Grand Street Iftar Ceremony in Addis Ababa, at the center of the capital. The motto of this year’s grand street Iftar was “Our Iftar for our compatriots” and the faithful were asked to bring food and non-food items to the ceremony to be distributed to the needy by the organizers and mosques.
Tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, faithful gathered in the streets and a joint praying and prostrating ceremony was held. Then, the fast-breaking, meal ceremony kicked off and congregants enjoyed the beautiful Iftar together. The faithful are seen in the picture sitting making lines.
Similarly, this picture was also taken during the Grand Iftar ceremony in Addis Ababa. Depicted in the picture are Muslim religious fathers, Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council heads and Addis Ababa Majlis Board members, Ustazs and religious scholars attending the street Iftar ceremony.
Ethiopian Islamic Supreme Council President, Sheikh Haji Ibrahim Tufa, during the event called on the Muslim community to continue supporting the needy people as usual. “When we host this dinner party, it should be thinking and helping our hungry people, those who are in need and displaced from their homes for various reasons,” he said.
On the other hand, this picture was taken during Eid al-Fitr religious celebration in Addis Ababa Stadium and surrounding streets. Annually, Muslims in Addis Ababa are seen massed at Addis Ababa Stadium to attend the Eid al-Fitr celebration ceremony early in the morning, during the end month of Ramadan.
The faithful are gathered at the stadium just to pray and prostrate jointly to thank Allah. Hundreds of thousands of Muslim followers usually attend the morning event. It is among the beautiful holiday ceremony celebration events in Addis Ababa. As in the picture, the stadium, nearby streets and spaces are over brimmed by people.
This picture was taken during the 1444th Eid al-Fitr prayer time early in the morning on Eid day on Friday here in Addis Ababa. Muslims from all corners of Addis Ababa gathered at Addis Ababa Stadium and surrounding streets to attend the Eid prayer and prostration ceremony.
The Eid prayer (Eid Solah) of this year took place early in the morning during the Eid day in Addis Ababa and Muslims of the capital attended the ceremony in congregation and gave thanks to Allah. Hundreds of thousands of faithful attended the annual religious holiday and the event was concluded peacefully.
