Ambassadors extend New Year wishes to Ethiopians

• Vow to invigorate relations

ADDIS ABABA – Ambassadors of Russia, India, Japan and Kazakhstan have extended their New Year’s wishes to the people and government of Ethiopia.

The ambassadors expressed also hope that bilateral relationships with the Horn of African nation will bolster through the Ethiopian year of 2015.

Accordingly, Russian Ambassador to Ethiopia Evgeny Terekhin wished the Ethiopian people and government a happy and prosperous year and expressed his delight over the Ethio-Russian long-standing friendship that has been invigorated over years. One of the greatest achievements of the Ethiopian government in the just concluded year is commencing the National Dialogue Commission and its commitment to peace which is manifested by extending an olive branch to opponents.

Indian Ambassador to Ethiopia Shri Robert Shetkintong said on his part that marking a New Year in September is a unique culture of Ethiopians and attested the country’s special place in world history. The ambassador also expressed belief that the two countries will see a strong cooperation in the coming Ethiopian New Year.

Japanese Ambassador Ito Takako, who noted her country’s desire to make Ethiopia one of the largest development partners in Africa, expressed desire to collaborate with relevant stakeholders here to ensure mutual benefits. Japan is keen on extending collaboration with Ethiopia in capacity building in a wide range of fields including industry, health, agriculture, justice and administration as well as trade facilitation and revenue collection.

“It is our sincere hope that Ethiopia will further improve the investment environment for the FDI so that more Japanese companies will choose the former as their primary investment destination.”

The ambassador further vowed to support Ethiopia’s efforts to make an inclusive National Dialogue that is believed to play a vital role in laying the social and political foundations for solving the current problems in a sustainable manner. The National Dialogue is also expected to bring lasting peace and stability in Ethiopia.

For Kazakhstan Ambassador to Ethiopia Barlybay Sadykov, Ethiopia is recognized as an active member of the African continent and contributes greatly to the settlement of different global and regional issues including the Green Legacy initiative. “We wish success to Ethiopian initiatives and plans aimed at further ensuring economic prosperity and promoting the country’s interests in the international arena. The relations between Kazakhstan and Ethiopia, which are based on friendship and mutual support, have also further strengthened.”

“I’m happy to have many friends in the Government, in think-tanks, in business and in cultural sectors of Ethiopia,” the ambassador said, adding that the two countries should work closely to keep such momentum and consolidate the friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation.
