ADDIS ABABA – The recent victory of the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) against anti-peace elements like Al–Shebaab is a bitter pill for sworn-in enemies to swallow apart from indicating the ongoing security service reform effectiveness, Veteran Military Brig. Gen. Tesfaye Habtemariam.
Speaking to the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), Brig. Gen. Tesfaye stated that ENDF’s recent major victory against local and international anti-peace cliques like the TPLF and Shene terrorist groups, as well as the Al-Shabaab, shows the successfulness of the security service reform executed within the past four years.
According to him, Ethiopia took decisive action against the Al – Shabaab that tried to cross its border. The country’s victory over the terrorist group is not only for the group but also a great lesson for the forces that try to undermine Ethiopia’s sovereignty.
There are anti-peace elements like T-TPLF and Shene that are working day and night to weaken Ethiopia and derail its development activities to achieve the objectives of foreign powers; he said adding that the recent coordinated actions of these groups against Ethiopia are to interrupt the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
Veteran Military Brig. Gen. Tesfaye further opined that some foreign interest groups are equipping, training, and supporting internal anti-peace elements economically and politically to hinder Ethiopia’s development, disrupt its peace, and establish a puppet government.
As to him, it should not be just the security forces’ business to protect the country from internal and external enemies, and all Ethiopians have to maintain national unity and sovereignty, and it should be understood that ethnic and religious divisions are not helpful for the nation.
The coordinated pressures of these forces against Ethiopia can only be curbed when the unity of Ethiopians is strengthened, he added.
He also insisted that Ethiopia’s recent achievements in curtailing the conspiracies of internal and external forces should be strengthened and repeated in other sectors.
